About Us

Founded in 2018 by BBC journalist Hannah Ajala, We Are Black Journos is a vibrant and supportive community dedicated to empowering Black journalists across the media landscape. Our mission is to create a space where Black journalists, whether seasoned professionals or newcomers, can connect, share experiences, and find belonging in an industry where their voices have often been underrepresented.

Through a series of regular events—ranging from networking gatherings to mentorship programs—we aim to bridge gaps, inspire confidence, and champion the unique perspectives that Black journalists bring to the table. We believe in the power of community and collaboration, fostering an environment where members can thrive, grow, and contribute to a more inclusive and diverse media industry.

Our commitment to diversity is reflected in every aspect of what we do. We host discussions on industry challenges, provide career-building opportunities, and celebrate the stories that might otherwise go untold. At We Are Black Journos, we are not just a network; we are a movement towards a more equitable future in journalism.

Join us as we continue to pave the way for Black voices in media, ensuring that our stories are told with authenticity, power, and pride.
