Jamel Smith:
I’m a journalist at PA Media, and various articles of mine have been used in publications ranging from Sky News, BBC and ITV. I have reported and written exclusives on the war in Ukraine, the Turkish/Syrian earthquake, war in Gaza and the death of Sinead O’Connor. I was commended for News Journalism at the 2023 NCTJ Awards of Excellence.
I’m interested in people’s experiences and stories, especially from underrepresented communities. I have sought out interviews with a wide range of individuals, such as community leaders fundraising for Turkey earthquake victims and the founder of a black children’s bookstore that aims to create a safe space for young black people.
I’m Amarachi, a freelance journalist primarily working at CNN International as a digital news producer, TV news show writer and teleprompter operator. I initially joined the company as a digital features intern after completing my master’s degree in Newspaper Journalism at City University London. While I started my career as a sportswriter who interned at BBC Sports News and on The Telegraph’s Women’s Sport desk, I specialised in health and science reporting during my course and most enjoy writing articles about quirky scientific discoveries. I have also freelanced at Sky News and Euronews.
